The excellent résumé of Dr. Lisa Su has recently become much better. AMD’s president and CEO is now an official member of the Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), a body comprised of the nation’s finest scientists and innovators, as announced by President Obama today. Su will work with other PCAST members to provide the President and the White House with important policy recommendations in the areas of science, technology, and innovation.
Su’s selection is unsurprising. Su is an experienced engineer who contributed wonderfully to the semiconductor business by providing innovative methods to substantially speed up chips, according to her official profile on the White House website. Su is also an IEEE Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in the United States.

According to the White House:
President Biden today announced the appointment of 30 of America’s most illustrious scientists and technologists to his President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). PCAST is the only body of external advisors charged with making science, technology, and innovation policy recommendations to the President and the White House. It is a direct descendant of President Eisenhower’s scientific advisory committee, which was established in 1957 in the weeks following the launch of Sputnik.
President Biden’s PCAST comprises 20 elected members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, five MacArthur “Genius” Fellows, two former Cabinet secretaries, and two Nobel laureates, who represent the best and brightest minds in the country. Experts in astrophysics and agriculture, biochemistry and computer engineering, ecology and entrepreneurship, immunology and nanotechnology, neurology and national security, social science and cybersecurity, and other fields make up the group’s membership.

Dr. Lisa T. Su, an electrical engineer, specializes in semiconductor devices and high-performance computers. She was the first to use copper instead of aluminum to link computer chips, resulting in 20 percent higher chip speeds. She is the President and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a major semiconductor and microprocessor firm. She is an American immigrant from Taiwan. She is the first woman to win the IEEE Robert N. Noyce Medal, and she was named Fortune Magazine’s #2 “Business Person of the Year” for 2020, as well as one of Barron’s “World’s Best CEOs” for 2019.
