Canon is being sued for disabling features of their printers after the ink runs out, which could cause consumers to buy new printers.
The epson xp-4105 printer error 034004 is a lawsuit that has been filed by Canon against Epson. It states that the Epson XP-4105 printer has a software bug that disables features when ink runs out.

Canon has been sued in a class-action lawsuit for deactivating the scan and fax functions of some all-in-one printers when the ink is low or gone. Canon is accused of deceiving consumers by failing to notify them of the impending change, according to a complaint filed in New York on October 12.
Scanning a paper does not need the use of ink.
The All-in-One Printers, on the other hand, are packed and marketed in such a way that they must contain ink in order to scan documents. If the ink cartridges are low or empty, the All-in-One Printers cannot be used as scanners.
Faxing a document does not need the use of ink.
The All-in-One Printers, on the other hand, are packed and marketed in such a way that they must include ink in order to fax documents. If the ink cartridges are low or empty, the All-in-One Printers cannot be used as fax machines.
There are no workarounds, according to Canon, and replenishing the ink is the sole option.

When the ink ran out or was empty, the plaintiff bought a model identical to the one described but was unable to utilize its scanning capabilities. The plaintiff is seeking a jury trial.
Plaintiff Leacraft is a Queens, New York, inhabitant. Plaintiff Leacraft bought a Canon PIXMA MG2522 All-in-One Printer from a Walmart retail location in East Meadow, New York in March of 2021. Plaintiff Leacraft bought the Canon PIXMAMG2522 All-in-One Printer for the stated purpose of scanning. He discovered after buying and using the gadget that it does not work as a scanner if the ink cartridges are low or empty. Plaintiff Leacraft was injured and her property was harmed as a consequence of Canon’s actions. If Plaintiff Leacraft had realized that he would have to keep ink in the device in order to scan papers, he would not have bought it or paid as much for it.
